Russell Knight School, Cherry Hill, NJ
Storage Room D, AKA: Quiet Room
Photographs taken on 10/22/07
DESCRIPTION: The closet is approximately 6' by 8'
There is no ventilation in the closet. It wreaks of a foul
odor, possibly urine. All four walls are padded, as is the
floor. There is no window, not even for a staff member
to observe the child. There are no cameras or monitors
in this closet. The school principal would not confirm or
deny if the child
was left in the room unattended.

Above picture shows the exterior side of the closet door.
Door is labeled as "Storage D."

Above (left) shows full view of padded closet from door.
Above (right) shows lock on outside of door.

All four walls are padded with what appear to be old gym mats.
Above image is of the overhead fluorescent light.
Please Note: Fluorescent lights are very disturbing for children with
Sensory Integrative Dysfunction (SID). Most hear the humming sound
from the lighting fixture and the flickering light often appears like a
strobe
light to children with SID. Having this lighting as the only source in such
a small confined setting could trigger additional problematic behaviors.

Above image shows light switch and electrical outlet within child's reach.
It is located approximately 3 inches from door. If a child was banging
on the door to get out, switch could easily be hit. With no other lighting
sources, child would be in complete darkness.

Above image shows padded floor. Small area in front of door is
not padded to allow for door opening.

There are visible scuff marks on the interior lower half of the door.
They appear to be from children attempting to kick their way out.
